The Institutional Evaluation Programme (IEP)

In May 2008, İzmir University of Economics applied for the “Institutional Evaluation Programme” (IEP) of the European University Association (EUA). The University has initiated this process as part of the academic evaluation and quality improvement efforts undergoing since 2005.

The European University Association (EUA) represents and supports higher education institutions in 46 countries, providing them with a unique forum to cooperate and keep abreast of the latest trends in higher education and research policies. So far, 250 evaluations have been conducted in 39 countries in Europe and worldwide, making the IEP methodology one of the best and most widely tested among international evaluation programmes currently available to universities in Europe.

The Institutional Evaluation Programme (IEP) is an independent membership service of the European University Association (EUA) that has been designed to ensure that higher education institutions gain maximum benefit from a comprehensive evaluation conducted by a team of experienced European higher education leaders. The intention is for these evaluations to support the participating institutions in the continuing development of their strategic management and internal quality culture.

The focus of the IEP is the institution as a whole rather than individual study programmes or units. It focuses upon:

  • Decision-making processes and institutional structures and effectiveness of strategic planning
  • Relevance of internal quality processes and the degree to which their outcomes are used in decision making and strategic planning as well as perceived gaps in these internal mechanisms. As part of this larger framework the evaluations address the issues on internal quality assurance identified by the European Standard and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ESG).
